Dear Just Oral Boards,

When I first started the course, I was extremely nervous and really did not look forward to the phone calls because I felt that I would simply show how bad an oral examinee I would be.  However, after each session the examiner focused on what the major flaws were.  They did not sweat the small stuff; they worked on major things such as being concise and being confident. In addition, they were always willing to work within my schedule. By the time I reached the end of the course I felt fully prepared to enter the exam.  We had covered all the major topics and I developed a healthy level of confidence that I sorely lacked.  And then I took the exam and I passed!

Dear Just Oral Boards,

Just Oral Boards finally got me to stop memorizing stuff I already knew, trust my own instincts, and develop the strategies to finally get me through this eight-year nightmare! (Yeah, my sixth time for Orals!) Your course was the only one that took the time for personal evaluation and then coached me in the specific areas I needed to pass. My deepest gratitude to you and your team!

Dear Just Oral Boards,

This is a great course! It’s unlike other courses where you are herded and then bombarded with questions over a few days with very little individualized feedback.  You and the testers become tired and they give mostly average advice.  Just Oral Boards offers you a personalized review of your weaknesses and strengths to help you make sense of the skills the examiners are looking for.  The oral exam is a test of thinking and speaking not just memorization and as such the one to one, non-rushed approach that Just Oral Board uses is unparalleled.

Dear Just Oral Boards,

This was an exceptional course.  I did a Pain Fellowship and have been away from the OR for almost one year prior to my oral exam.  I discovered  that the course was very useful in preparing me for the actual exam.  The mock orals were almost identical the real thing.  I find the examiners of the course to be keenly knowledgeable, patient and honest.  They truly care and want each one to pass.  This course is a can’t miss opportunity.

Dear Just Oral Boards,

I want to thank all of the examiners for helping me prepare for my oral exam.  I passed my Anesthesiology Oral Boards in April 2009 on my first attempt.  I struggled with the written exam and I did not want to have the same difficulties with the oral.  The first few mock oral sessions were rough, but I learned that there is a difference between knowing what you want to say, and saying it in a clear, concise and intelligent manner.  After having trained extensively with your program, I found that the actual oral exam was no where near as intense as your training sessions.  This was largely due to the fact that I knew what general issues would be stressed as soon as I saw the stems and the grab bags.  We had covered most of the issues during the training sessions.  The examiners are not there to hold your hand and sugar coat your mistakes.  The critiques were honest and thorough.  Where problems exist, they will let you know and then it up to you to change your approach.  The examiners stress specific catch phrases that will give you quick points during the orals.   I found that when those questions came on the actual exam, I was able to answer them confidently and move on to the next subject without hesitation.  Time management is vital to success on the oral and this was stressed repeatedly.  I cannot say enough about this course.  I would take it again, but… I don’t have to.  Thank you.

Dear Just Oral Boards,

I have to thank you for helping me pass the oral board exam on the FIRST TRY!

We have all taken many written exams and know what they are all about.  This being said, I have never taken prep-courses before.  With the oral board exam being such a different exam, I felt the need for a mock oral exam/review TWO DAYS before my actual exam.  As you can imagine, there were no courses that would cater to my time constraints and location except JUST ORAL BOARDS.  I called J.O.B. just before my plane departed towards NYC (location of the exam), and was informed that they would work with me. I was sent exam cases by email with a test time of 5pm (3hours after touchdown).

My plane out of Chicago was stuck on the taxiway for 2.5hrs so I emailed J.O.B (from the plane) letting them know that I would not make my 5pm exam time.  After 1 additional hour delay in the air (delays are the reason you should arrive at the location AT LEAST one day ahead of time), we arrived and as I was waiting for my luggage when Dr Tran called.  I informed him of the situation and he was willing to call later, but I felt I needed minimum of 2 exams and time was running out…so, I chose to start the exam while waiting for my luggage.

The process was very similar to the actual testing process, and Dr. Tran was EXTREMELY patient since I lost signal 3 times in the taxi on the way to the hotel.  He called me back and we would continue where we left off.  Once at the hotel, my card was rejected (security hold), and Dr. Tran waited to give me my critique until I finished with the desk.  After ALL of the interruptions/distractions, Dr. Tran reviewed my performance/ answers/ terminology/ buzzwords with great detail and helped me practice my verbal delivery.

I had my second mock exam the next day with a different mock oral examiner without any distractions in my hotel room.  Again, similar to the actual exam and again very thorough in giving advice on what to do different, what to brush up on, and what I did well.  It was nice having a different attending with a different questioning style to help you prepare.

Overall, J.O.B. was great for me as it is the only oral board prep that is 1 on 1, specific to your needs, works at ANY location (taxi, hotel, baggage claim…), was willing to work with time constraints, identifies/ improves YOUR weak points, and helps you to verbalize your thoughts (as this is what the real exam is all about).  I will recommend this to anyone about to take the exam, but I suggest starting sooner than I did.

Dear Just Oral Boards,

I am indebted to you for helping me pass this exam.  With two prior unsuccessful attempts, I had a lot riding on this attempt because another failure would have meant another “opportunity” to take the written exam next year and having to wait yet another year after that to take the orals… again.  Definitely glad to have this behind me.

Your course is simply THE BEST VALUE of any anesthesia oral board review course out there.  Sitting in a lecture hall watching someone else take a mock oral isn’t really good preparation for anyone planning to take the oral boards (except perhaps for the one person up there taking the mock oral!).  Your course is exceptional for several reasons.  First, I was put in the “hot seat” all the time so I got used to answering the questions myself (not watching someone else).  Secondly, the debriefing at the end with your well-researched answers was great for identifying areas I needed to work on.  Your “team” of examiners was very useful because they all have different styles (like the real examiners).  This is really the right approach, I think, because on the actual day of the exam it does come down to being comfortable in the hot seat and a having a good fund of knowledge.

A friend of mine recommended this course to me and it was the best advice I took regarding the orals.  I thought the pass rate for people who took your course was impressive and that helped convince me to do it. Now, I am one of your success statistics, I’m happy to say!

Thanks for everything.

Dear Just Oral Boards,

I am happy to write a few words about my experience with the “Just Oral Boards” program. My road towards the Anesthesiology oral board exam was very rough. It had become a wall I could not get through. After unsuccessful tries, I was ready to give up.  However, everything had changed when one of my colleagues advised me to contact “Just Oral Boards.” It was a great awakening! Dr. Tran and his team became my company for the next three months, offering  several mock oral exams each week.  I found it extremely beneficial to recreate an atmosphere similar to the real exam and to be given the opportunity to hear superb and constructive comments about my performance. I was shown compassion, support, and understanding during the difficult process, even at times when I was feeling down and anxious.  I strongly recommend this Team of Masters, who helps you become Board Certified in both mind and attitude way before the actual exam!

I have passed my oral exam with confidence!  Thank you so much!

Dear Just Oral Boards,

Thanks so much for your help in passing the boards. As you know, I have taken all three of the national review courses.  I can say hands down that the reason I passed was due to your one on one style course.  I failed the boards once before and did not want to repeat another six months of studying and six months of heart-ache.

For those reading this, Dr Tran and his team spend 35min doing the oral exam and up to 1.5 hrs in review (of that exam) as necessary.  Your questions are always answered and key points are always reviewed. I wish I knew about Just Oral Boards on the first attempt.

Thanks again Dr Tran for everything and Good Luck in the future!

Dear Just Oral Boards,

Just Oral Boards did a great job of preparing me for the exam.  I did the Rapid Sequence package, and what I got out of it was worth every cent.  Nothing prepares you better for orals than actually going through exams, and the benefit of immediate feedback from a knowledgeable practice-examiner was invaluable.  Also, I really appreciated how accommodating everyone was.  More than once I had unforeseen scheduling conflicts arise, and they worked with me to make sure I got every scheduled practice test in no matter what.  As I studied more on my own, I found the exams more and more helpful because it let the examiners push me further and it allowed my confidence to grow.  They also taught me how to respond to questions I was unsure about with grace and polish.  I definitely recommend this review course!

Thanks for your help!

Dear Just Oral Boards,

Just Oral Boards have several advantages for the busy anesthesiologist trying to study and ultimately PASS the oral boards.  I took Track 6 “The Rapid Sequence” option with 24 exams.

The advantages of this track are as follows:

  • In order to pass the boards one must PRACTICE. This is not a test that most people can study for one month before the exam and expect to pass.   In taking Track 6 one can practice at least once a week.
  • We are busy practitioners- some with families.  Just Oral Boards provides flexibility.  You schedule your times with plenty of notice.
  • You get instant feedback and constructive criticism after each test.
  • You must learn HOW to ANSWER the questions asked.
  • You get ONE-ON-ONE attention which is unique to this course.  You can not find a better deal!

Dear Just Oral Boards,

I want to let you know I PASSED!   Without a doubt your guidance was a huge factor.  Taking the mock orals weekly allowed me to hone my skills and be prepared for the big day. I’ve told all my friends who are preparing for the orals that your course is the best.  For anyone thinking of taking this course let me give you some advice. The key for the orals is to practice, practice, practice.  You need to be prepared to think on your feet and the only way to do that is to take as many exams as possible.  Dr Tran and his team are awesome and I guarantee you will increase your odds of passing by studying with them.

Dear Just Oral Boards,

I just became a certified anesthesiologist and I want to thank you very much for all your help. Your course is exceptional & amazing!  Initially I planed to take only several exams but switched to the Rapid Sequence Track.  I believe they covered around 90-95% of the possible subjects; they are really up-to-date.  They taught me how to organize my thoughts, pointed out my weaknesses, and redirected my focus. They showed me how to correctly answer the questions and what is important for the examiners. They were very flexible and always available by phone or email for the supplementary questions that I had.  Thank you again. I would sincerely recommend your course to everyone who is preparing for orals. Great! Great!
